Taking a look around one of Masterton's most well-appointed early childhood centres you might be forgiven for thinking they would charge upmarket prices. It is pleasantly surprising for parents to find that the Cubbyhouse on Te Ore Ore Road has great rates which make it one of the best value centres in the area. It's just $7.50 for a 61G2 hour day for 3- to 5-year-olds within their 20 hours ECE, or FREE for their morning or afternoon sessions. Their rates for under-3s are also extremely competitive at just $35 for a 61G2 day. Shorter and longer sessions are also available. When you consider that the Cubbyhouse has a new purpose-built building with excellent facilities and resources, delicious and healthy meals, amazing staff and a programme that is second-to-none, it is easy to see what great value they are providing to Wairarapa families. Centre owner Simon Pervan says some local people are under the misconception that the centre is expensive, but this certainly is not the case. The Cubbyhouse is running a special beginning-of-the-year promotion which offers four weeks free if your child begins by the end of February. The Cubbyhouse is fortunate to have a great team of caring and qualified teachers who are always striving to get the best out of the children. The centre has just expanded its computer programme with the purchase of a new touch screen computer and iPad. ''The new computer programmes help children learn and get comfortable with technology which is becoming a part of everyday life. This will further benefit the children in their transition to school,'' says Simon. He says the children are loving the vege garden and they are amazed by learning about the process as the monarchs transform from hungry caterpillars to beautiful butterflies. The Cubbyhouse is holding another Fun Day on Sunday, February 3, from 10am to noon. This is a chance to look around the centre, talk to staff and find out how everything works. Visitors can try the finger food that children have for morning and afternoon tea. There will be a bouncy castle and face painting to keep the children entertained. It's an excellent chance to check things out at the start of the school year.
