30 WAIRARAPA NEWS, JANUARY 16, 2013 EDUCATION 5045092AA www.mastertonelc.co.nz 29 Albert Street, MASTERTON Ph: 06 370 1037 • email@example.com Anumber of the children at Masterton Early Learning Centre are moving on to school! Although the teachers at the centre are always sad to see 'their' children leaving, this does open up spaces for new enrolments. The centre is offering a special 'free trial' so that parents can experience the peace of mind and the many benefits for their children that comes from enrolment at Masterton Early Learning Centre. Ensuring that their children are ready for school is always a concern for parents. At the Masterton Early Learning Centre you can be confident that your child will be given the advantages and experiences that will prepare them in the best possible way for their time at school. There are many advantages for your pre-schoolers at the Masterton Early Learning Centre, but what really sets the Centre apart are the specialised programmes offered to each age group. The Centre employs qualified teachers who specialise with specific age groups, from baby care and learning through to more formal preparation for school. At the Masterton Early Learning Centre the environment has four separate rooms, enabling teachers to provide learning activities and experiences that reflect the current interest of the children at the appropriate age and developmental level. The trained and experienced teachers understand children's learning needs. They know that in preparation for school, children need to develop as proactive learners, to discover an interest in the world around them and to develop a passion for enquiry and learning. Teachers are aware that children need to develop confidence to work in a group with other children, to share with others, and learn to take their turn and allow others to have their turn. Although a focus on social development and learning is a constant from the Nursery through to the pre-school room, the centre has developed a programme that addresses the specific needs of children getting ready to move on to Primary School. The 'Leaps and Bounds' programme developed and offered by the centre specifically addresses the required development and skills that will lead to an enjoyable and confident start at school. The Leaps and Bounds programme integrates early numeracy and literacy with other activities, and specifically focusses on alphabet knowledge and early reading and writing activities. You can be sure that through the partnership between you and the Masterton Early Learning Centre your child will develop the confidence and independence that will support a positive and enjoyable start in the busy school environment. The 20 Hours ECE offered at the centre ensures that you will not need to pay fees for the first 20 hours per week for three and four year olds. MASTERTON EARLY LEARNING CENTRE going ahead in leaps and bounds! Masterton Early Learning Centre is so confident that you will be delighted with the opportunities and the care offered to your children that enrolments taken between December 5 2012 and 28 February 2013 will be free for the first four weeks in the centre. Cartoon world opens for kids at workshops The first of Aratoi s school holiday programme workshops is under way this week with the focus on cartoon- ing. Kids can learn some of the tricks of making a cartoon of themselves, a friend, or a favorite pet or animal, said Tina-Rae Carter, who is leading the workshops with Stuart Knight, an experienced cartoonist who has been drawing since the age of 3 when he first held a pencil. Children will be drawing their car- toons on individual white boards which will make it easy to correct their work. Tina hopes some will make their own comic strips and she plans to find a way to publish them. All they need to bring are some photos and a sense of humour, she said. Week two s theme is masks from various cultures and festivals. Children will be using recycled, natural, and/or glitzy, colourful materials, and those who have atten- ded the cartooning workshop may like to develop their drawings into a fun mask of their cartoon character. Both workshops are suitable for children aged 7 to 12, and they can attend one or a number of sessions which are priced at $15 each. Days are: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurs- day, 2pm till 4pm. Bookings essen- tial at Aratoi on 06 370 0001.
