MR TOSHIO NAKAMOTO (1930 - 2008). Massive investment due to visionary man Inspirational leader: JNL's founder Toshio Nakamoto. We cannot celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Juken New Zea- land Ltd without recognising the foresight and determination of our founding President Mr Toshio Nakamoto. Mr Nakamoto was an astute and visionary businessman who was tireless in his passion and commitment to his work. He was a strong advocate for, and championed, the use of sustainably grown Pinus Radiata from New Zealand for high qual- ity, high value manufactured wood products. It was this vision that saw Wood One Ltd, under his steward- ship, invest over $900 million in plantation forests and wood prod- uct manufacturing mills in the Northland, East Coast and Wairarapa regions of New Zea- land. In so doing a significant contri- bution was made, and continues to be made, to the wealth and wellbeing of those regional econ- omies. Mr Nakamoto s efforts and con- tributions over the years have been recognised in various ways in New Zealand, Japan and else- where. He has received awards for promoting and fostering business relationships between countries and in the New Zealand-Japan context this culminated in an Honorary Membership of the New Zealand Order of Merit being bestowed upon him in June 2005. Mr Nakamoto has left an endur- ing legacy of inspirational achievements in various countries, including New Zealand, and for those who knew him or knew of him, indelible impressions of a man with passion, with vision and with boundless energy and love for his work and for life.
