Copthorne Hotel opens new doors Jerry Crump: ''The latest renovations to Cafe Solway, our indoor swimming pool, fitness centre, squash court and golf driving range are timely and create a much more modern facility for everyone to enjoy.'' Visitors to the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Solway Park in Masterton are in for a treat, thanks to a major refurbishment of its rec- reational facilities completed in time for summer. The last 12 months have been busy for the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Solway Park. Not only was the Masterton landmark awarded a Qualmark Enviro-Gold award and Four-Star Plus accreditation, it was also the hotel of choice for the Georgian rugby team and a large number of international visitors who travelled through the region during the Rugby World Cup. This week, the Copthorne Solway Park will mark another milestone thanks to the com- pletion of phase three of its refurbishment process. The hotel s general manager Jerry Crump says this latest proj- ect will see the hotel s refurbishment cycle almost reach full circle following previous upgrades to the property in 2006 and 2009. The latest renovations to Cafe Solway, our indoor swimming pool, fitness centre, squash court and golf driving range are timely and create a much more modern facility for everyone to enjoy, he says. Our hotel guests will have access to fantastic recreational facilities while locals who have long enjoyed coming here, will be able to continue that experience but in a much more contemporary and comfortable setting. Mr Crump says the new look of the recreational facilities follow a natural high country theme in keeping with the rest of the hotel complex and have been designed to reflect the Wairarapa s unique geographical setting. They will also take centre stage next year when the hotel re- launches its Country Club pack- age for locals. People will be able to pay an annual fee and come and use our facilities at their convenience as well as get discounts for eating at Cafe Solway and at The Grill, says Mr Crump. We ve always felt at the heart of the community and this is one way of allowing more people to feel connected to us. While the latest refurbishments have been completed in time for the summer holidays, two more phases are planned for next year. These include upgrades to the 600-wing corridor which features 30 rooms and the conference facility s rest rooms; and upgrades to the main lobby rest rooms and nearby pub- lic areas. Local industrial designers, DJ Silverwood Architects, drafted Copthorne Solway Park s over- haul and have project managed the development, while Wairarapa-based civil engineering and construction company, Rigg- Zschokke, have lead the construc- tion.
