With 59 teams and the weather not playing ball for the first game of the season, we still managed to kick off the day with a hiss and a roar. With the centralisation of the U6 to U10 grades being such a success last year, we have decided to keep this format with only a slight change, that being the U6 grade being split into North and South. Pioneer is hosting the North grade and Greytown has offered to host the South grade. The U8s will be hosted by MRS, the U9s by Marist and the U10s by Carterton. It is great to see so many parents and supporters going to these games as it's a buzz for the kids to have their family and friends there to support them. Whether they win or lose its all about getting involved in a sport. Our U11s and U13s will be travelling around the Wairarapa for their games. In the next couple of weeks a lot of clubs are having their old-timers day and we will try to have these teams at their home clubs. Go along and support the kids as it's a great feeling for the kids to be part of this special day for their club. We wish the kids the very best for the season and remember it's not who wins or lose, but how you play the game. As the Rugby World Cup is being heldin New Zealand this year, our rep season is going to start a lot sooner than in previous years. We again are looking for rep coaches for the U8 to U13 teams. Anyone interested in taking one of these teams please apply in writing to: JAB Committee, PO Box 372, Masterton. Signing up: Doug Bracewell, left, and Sir Brian Lochore with Masterton Red Star JAB player Matariki Gemmell. Sign of support The NZRU is running a promotion asking all clubs and school teams to get their kids to sign their club jersey. The idea is for all the kids to show their support for the All Blacks at the Rugby World Cup. All the jerseys from around the country will be on display during the world cup. Masterton Red Star got Sir Brian Lochore down to speak to their 170 kids and after the kids had signed the jersey he pres- ented it to Doug Bracewell who is collecting all the Wairarapa Bush jerseys. The kids all got a huge buzz out of this. The mood at practice was electric and the thought that they were giving their signatures for the All Blacks was, to them, really cool.
